How will the extension of Doel 4 and Tihange 3 impact employment?

Generating nuclear power is a labour-intensive process requiring highly specialized and highly trained staff. The Doel and Tihange nuclear power plants mostly employ Electrabel staff, but a large number of outside contractors/service providers is typically brought in if investments are carried or maintenance work is performed.

Nuclear power plants create direct, indirect and related employment. A 2012 PWC study mentioned a total of 4,000 jobs being involved in the operation of 2 1,000 MW nuclear plants at 2 different sites and the dismantling of the remaining 5 units. To get a really detailed idea, we will perform further analyses. In parallel, our goal is to train our teams so that they can help carry out the subsequent dismantling.
