Energy transition
No CO₂ is released during the production of electricity in nuclear power plants, because there is no combustion of fossil fuels as in conventional thermal power stations. CO₂ is one of the factors responsible for global warming.
Radioactive Waste
Radioactive waste is the collective name for all material containing radioactive elements for which no practical applications are known. It originates from e.g. the medical sector, the industry or electricity production.
Nuclear power plants and the environment
Nuclear power plants contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. But just like other industrial activities, they have an impact on the environment. In addition to the conventional impact that other power stations also have on the environment, nuclear power plants also produce a very specific type of waste: radioactive waste.
