Peregrine falcon born in nesting box on Doel nuclear power plant cooling tower
The peregrine falcon was threatened with extinction, so in 1995 ENGIE Electrabel decided to attach large nesting boxes to a number of power plant cooling towers and chimneys. Peregrine falcons prefer to breed in high, quiet places. And it has been a big success! Since the start of the project, more than 300 peregrine falcons have been born.
A nice detail is that the mother of the peregrine falcon chicks was herself born in this nest years ago.
