On Wednesday 6 May, three peregrine falcons were born in the nesting box on the cooling tower of Doel nuclear power plant. Within a few weeks they will be ringed.

The peregrine falcon was threatened with extinction, so in 1995 ENGIE Electrabel decided to attach large nesting boxes to a number of power plant cooling towers and chimneys. Peregrine falcons prefer to breed in high, quiet places. And it has been a big success! Since the start of the project, more than 300 peregrine falcons have been born.

A nice detail is that the mother of the peregrine falcon chicks was herself born in this nest years ago.
